At 10 months, Ellis is...
- wearing a size 4 diaper - finally! as soon as I made the switch, I realized that we should have months ago. I did not want to let go of the size 3 Pampers Swaddlers - it meant my baby was no longer going to be swaddled in softness. And they had just come out with the wetness indicator for all sizes too, darnit.
- really exerting his self-confidence. Ellis claps all the time!! If someone in the near vicinity says 'good' anything, he starts clapping. Today at a birthday party during the cake cutting, as the adults clapped, he chimed in too. His afternoon teacher at his new school on his first day said she was singing 'If you're happy and you know it' and Ellis chimed in by clapping (he learned this at Primrose). We're really trying to make sure he claps every time we say TOUCHDOWN ALABAMA! :)
- more and more mobile. We have taken a few steps at Primrose, home, etc. but we are by no means walking. We have gotten to be very good at cruising on the walls, furniture, etc. We are great at standing for long periods of time. We are practicing walking by holding one of his hands. I want to make sure he can walk in and out of daycare soon!
- an outdoorsman. He loves going outside. If crying, he will instantly hush as soon as he goes out. He loves looking out of the window and doors. He and Bella stand side by side and stare out-sort of cute and sort of sad at the same time.
- signing. He started his last week at Primrose and although he hasn't learned any new signs, he will let you know when he wants 'more' or for you to do something 'again.' He has signed 'milk' too. Let's re-phrase this, I haven't noticed any new signs to look up the meaning yet. He's found lately that crying works even better than using his 'words.'
- using his left hand more and more. Let's note for the record that I started noticing around 6 months that Ellis preferred his left hand. Time will tell. He signs with his left hand and uses it to point more often than his right. He does wave with his right hand.
- cutting top teeth! For a long time, we just had the bottom two. In our tenth month, we have cut the front two (at the same time) and now the third and fourth upper teeth have cut through too. It looks like upper five and six could cut at any time. No more cuts on the bottom gum. I'm going to miss his gummy smile!
- spending all my money on his hair maintenance. :) He had his fourth and first layered big boy hair cut. Bye-bye bowl cuts!
- trying all sorts of new foods. At his new school, he gets breakfast and lunch. He normally eats big boy foods, like pancakes, biscuits, fruit for breakfast. He has tried all sorts of food at lunch. One note from school said that he refuses oranges. At home, he has started refusing his green beans. He is loving bananas - see he is our little monkey!
- still experiencing some stranger danger tendencies. For the first two weeks at his new school he screamed bloody murder, this past week has been better. When we are around large groups or in a new setting he keeps us in his sight at all times.
- still an electronics guru. He now takes the remotes and in between eating them, points them at the tv.
- in 18-24 month clothing and size 4 shoes. The clothes are a little long but for the most part, they fit. Ellis has a long torso (but some short legs) so some of his smocked longalls look funny on him. :(
- sleeping through the night completely most nights. The nights he doesn't are pretty painful. He is waking up around 6 am - 7 days a week. When are they old enough to get their own breakfast out and watch cartoons??!
- mischievous! His new favorite trick is to pull off his socks, one at a time. He laughs and laughs. He knows when he is doing something he shouldn't and always gives you a little look before doing it anyways. He is sneaky, sneaky. :) One time when it was just too quiet too soon, I found him with one piece of Bella's dogfood in his mouth. At least it was for sensitive tummies, just like his formula, right?!
- the best snuggler! It is hard putting him in his own bed to sleep at night. He loves to spoon and will take my arm and put it around him. He holds my hand/finger when I feed him his bottle. He loves to take his little hand and rub me on my arm or pat me on my back.
- calling everything the 'dor.' At first we were VERY proud, when he pointed at the door and said door. He still does this but sometimes he will point to Bella and say 'dor' and to the tv and say 'dor' and to the light and say 'dor.' His new teachers said that one day he pointed out all of the doors and said the word toy. He babbles all the time though. He loves cracking himself up.
- really so much fun!! We love him so much and really don't remember life (although I remember I was well rested and got out a lot more) before him!! He is such a special boy!!
